BASSET HOLLOW BASH 02'

The Basset Hollow Bash, Volleyball & Croquet Tournament has come
gone.
The music floated through the trees, the beer flowed through the troops
the food--ah, the food!!--stretched from "here to there". The
"Bash"
brought out some real chefs. We can still see Michael, Bill & Al
flipping hot cakes, cooking hot dogs & frying bacon. And who could
forget Kelly, with her deft wrist motion, mixing hot cake batter.
Then there was the volleyball court............... We can still see
Ashley's blazing serves and Stewart's stupefying "saves". While
on the
croquet field, Gabi's concentration & accurate shots became a legend.
There were walks through the woods, dips in the pond for some dogs &
the
Basset Hollow Demolition Derby. We can still hear the roar (?--it is a
VW, you know!) of the engines, the scrape of metal against a tree &
the
yells of triumph as a VW bus successfully negotiated a turn in the woods.
Two of the drivers, Zach & Bill, smiled in triumph as they were still
able to start their vans for the return trip to the Big City.
As dusk settled over BHF Sunday evening and the last van wound its way
up
the drive, we heard the plaintive cry "do we have to leave?".
Our
response was:" of course not--call in "sick" tomorrow &
the Bash will
continue................."
We thoroughly enjoyed the "Bash" & we hope you did too.
We'll definitely
do it again next year!!!!!!!!!!

Comrades:
A good time was had by all. The Kombi nation played volleyball, ate a
lot, drank more, watched the stars, listened to music and talked. Volkswagens
from splitscreens to Vanagons, 8-track players to monster amps, jar spaghetti
sauce to a delicate German cake with apple slices.
All good and all made possible by our gracious hosts Barb and Terry Saxe.
They should be running a bed and breakfast I tell ya.
Plans were laid for the next Manly Man campout. The place, Deer Park,
the day, first weekend in October. Committee assignments (Beer, Food)
Entertainment) will be made soon. Declare your manliness! Step up to your
significant other, fix her with a steely gaze and repeat after me: "Honey,
can I go camping with the guys?"
Luke
Luke is absolutely right about the campout (and you should have mentioned
your marinated Sicilian pasta sauce too Luke - mmm good!) I probably
gained a pound or so - I know, I shoulda played volleyball....!
It really was a perfect weekend, too bad some of you couldn't attend - but
there
will be the next campout soon.
Thanks a lot, Terry and Barbara - if you do open your B&B put my
reservation down for the first weekend!!
Michael
